Prolonged Release Melatonin is a formula with a two-phased delivery system that releases melatonin quickly and then steadily over six hours. Due to supply chain constraints, this product has transitioned to a 5 mg supplement and 90 tablets per bottle.
Naturally produced in the pineal gland in response to changes in light exposure, melatonin helps promote healthy sleep patterns and antioxidant and immune activities.† At night or in the dark, the body's melatonin production rises, but the amount produced declines from adolescence until it is virtually absent in elderly adults. This 5 mg Melatonin Prolonged Release Supplement is recommended for adults who have difficulty with sleep. Specifically designed for those who fall asleep but awaken later and have difficulty returning to sleep, this extended-release melatonin supplement releases 5 mg of melatonin over six hours.†
The leading cause of fatigue is poor sleep. Sleep quantity and quality are to blame for most cases of fatigue. A joint consensus statement of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and Sleep Research Society published in 2015 recommends adults regularly sleep seven or more hours per night to promote optimal health. In reality, most American adults get between five and six hours of sleep per night, and some get even less. The amount of time you sleep at night is extremely important for feeling well-rested. Regularly sleeping fewer than seven hours per night is associated with many adverse health outcomes.

In several human studies, researchers found that melatonin supplementation reduces the days needed to establish a regular sleep pattern. Travelers took melatonin on the day of travel (close to the target bedtime of the destination) and several days after that. Looking at several studies on the impact of melatonin and jet lag, melatonin seemed to provide benefits for about half the people studied.
As a dietary supplement, adults take one (1) Melatonin Prolonged Release tablet 20 minutes before bedtme with water, or as directed by their physician or health care professional.

Thank you for your comments. Many factors affect our quality of sleep. As you noticed, regular exercise has been shown to improve sleep quality as long as it is not done within 1 hour of bedtime. Tobacco, caffeine, alcohol, and heavy meals prior to bedtime can interfere with a good night's sleep. As can exposure to blue light from cell phones, computers, tablets, etc. Read about sleep hygiene tips here. Sleep is a rare commodity for me. So I was excited to try this. However, I'm still not staying asleep, despite exercise.

I did not like this product. Extremely groggy and out of it the next day. Please try making a 1.5 mg dose for sensitive people. I will not be buying the 3 mg dose again.

I have tried other brands of melatonin with more mg than Cooper's, only to be extremely disappointed. Cooper Complete Prolonged Release Melatonin is truly pharmaceutical strength/grade and it works!
